September 21, 2012 – European Cooperation Day!

More than 70 cross-border cooperation programmes all over Europe, including Estonia - Latvia Programme will mark the first European Cooperation Day on September 21 this year.

The day is designed to celebrate the success of European Territorial Cooperation and tell more people about the benefits of this kind of cooperation for local communities and individuals, especially in the regions. Sharing Borders, Growing Closer

Sharing Borders, Growing Closer is the byline of European Cooperation Day 2012 and is designed to note the success of European territorial cooperation over the past 20 years.

Borders have become bridges. We care about the environment and innovation. Not only in our own territory but also across borders. We are neighbors. And we are united with them by the sea or rivers. We all seem closer. Today we are better connected and together we find solutions to common problems. It is the only way.

One idea, many events

Many local events will take place on September 21 to mark this day all accross Europe. Estonia – Latvia Programme together with other programmes in the Baltic states will participate in organizing Project Open Days, during which programme-supported projects will show their work to the general public in their communties during the week of European Cooperation Day.

Programme will have a number of other activities, most visible of whom will be five short documentary films about the project results, shown on television stations in Estonia and Latvia in the evening of the European Cooperation Day.

Past and future

An international cross-border conference will be organized on September 19 in Voru, Estonia, where the successes of past cooperation will be analyzed, as well as vision for the future of territorial cooperation in the area will be discussed.

Preparations for the next European Union planning period 2014 - 2020 are underway, and Estonia - Latvia Programme has a series of events to find out what the priorities are for the stakeholders.

Our own initiative

European Cooperation Day is an initiative by Inteact and a number of territorial cooperation programmes around Europe for promoting the idea and benefits of territorial cooperation to people in the European Union and partner countries.
