Students from Lähte, Estonia, will visit Madona, Latvia, this week to participate in workshops and lectures about media literacy and video production. 15 students from Estonia together with 30 students from Latvia will jointly produce short videos for young people about different winter sports activities.
Madona seems to be a perfect place for doing that as it is right next to the highest Latvian hill Gaiziņš and there seems to be plenty of show on the ground at the moment. Besides spending time filming on the hill, students will also have some classes during the learning day, moderated by a TV journalist Krista Tuča.
These activities are a part of Estonia – Latvia Programme funded project “Media Literacy – 21st Century Approach to Education”, during which high school students learn to produce videos and about the influence of media. It is implemented jointly by Tartu Municipality and Madona Regional Council. Previously filmed student videos (and soon the winter sports activities videos) can be viewed at Project web site at www.mledu.eu.
